Dr Halil Murat AYDIN, MSc, Ph.D. is a chemical engineer. In 2008 he was awarded his PhD degree in Bioengineering from Hacettepe University, Ankara, through an integrated programme involving an Expertissues project that combined 20 different European Institutions within the FP6 scheme. Recognition of his significant achievements while on a six-month placement at Keele University, UK and the successful completion of the conjoint programme requirements, awarded him also with a European PhD Certificate. Continuing at Keele University with post-doctoral research, in 2009 Dr. AYDIN received a Marie Curie IEF Post Doctoral Fellowship and has since continued to work with Professor Ying Yang and Alicia El Haj from Keele University in the research of osteochondral biomaterials. He has also been a participant at the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting in Germany in 2011. In April 2011, Dr. AYDIN resumed his work at Hacettepe University as a postdoctoral fellow. His research group consists of MSc and PhD students undertaking research in various areas of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Running concurrent to his academic work is his role since 2007 as CSO and Co-Founder for BMT Calsis Co. (located in Hacettepe Technopolis) –the first and only Turkish manufacturer of bone and cartilage orthobiologic products. As results of these studies, he was awarded with the Parlar Foundation Technology Award in 2015. Dr. AYDIN has worked in around 20 national and international projects as a researcher and PI. He has recently finalized two TÜBİTAK (Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council) funded projects and received grants under COST, 1001, 1507 and 1511 schemes (as a PI). He holds 35 SCI publications, international proceedings, a European Patent and 4 Turkish patents. Currently, he is a faculty member in Institute of Science and Engineering - Bioengineering Division and serves as the President of HU Bioengineering Application and Research Centre.
